Turnberry

Turnberry is a location in Scotland where a trade agreement between the European Union and the United States was reached in July 2025. The agreement was negotiated between the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the then-President of the United States, Donald Trump. This agreement is newsworthy because the European Parliament has recently ratified it, albeit with added clauses to protect the EU from potential future trade threats or tariff changes from the US. The ratification process experienced delays and was subject to intense debate, with the US reportedly threatening to restrict EU access to American LNG if the agreement wasn't ratified. Despite these pressures, the European Parliament has now approved the deal, setting the stage for negotiations with member states to finalize the agreement.
