Veracruz

Veracruz is a state and port city in Mexico, located on the Gulf of Mexico. Recent news focuses on a significant oil spill impacting its coastline and that of neighboring Tabasco. The spill, originating from an unidentified vessel and possibly natural sources, has contaminated hundreds of kilometers of coastline, affecting at least seven nature reserves and prompting a large-scale cleanup effort involving around 2000 personnel. The Mexican government is investigating the source and responsible parties. Historically, Veracruz was a key port; a 16th-century shipwreck near Veracruz, resulting in significant loss of life and treasure, was recently highlighted.
