AOG Technics is a London-based airline parts firm at the center of a major fraud scandal. The company's director, Jose Alejandro Zamora Yrala, was recently sentenced to four years and eight months in prison for selling over 60,000 fake aircraft engine parts between 2019 and 2023. These parts, with falsified paperwork, were intended for CFM56 engines commonly used in Airbus and Boeing aircraft. The scam, valued at £40 million, involved engine parts finding their way into planes operated by major airlines like American Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Delta, and Ryanair. The discovery of the fraudulent parts led to safety alerts from regulators and the grounding of aircraft. The case highlights significant concerns about the integrity of the aircraft parts supply chain and the potential safety risks associated with counterfeit components.
