Ayuntamiento de Tarragona

The Ayuntamiento de Tarragona (City Council of Tarragona) is a governmental body central to the preservation and promotion of the Roman heritage of Tarraco, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Recently, the Ayuntamiento, along with the Generalitat (Government of Catalonia) and the Agència Catalana del Patrimoni Cultural (Catalan Agency for Cultural Heritage), has formalized the creation of the Consorci del Patrimoni Romà de Tàrraco (Consortium of Roman Heritage of Tarraco). This new public entity, with an annual budget of approximately 8 million euros and a staff of 89, aims to improve the management and conservation of Tarraco's Roman ruins. This is significant because, after delays, a unified body is finally in place to address the challenges of preserving and promoting these important historical sites, such as the Pont del Diable (Les Ferreres Aqueduct), which faces environmental degradation. The consortium is expected to generate opportunities for the city by enhancing the management of its Roman heritage.
