El Pilar

El Pilar is a Spanish *ganadería*, or cattle ranch, specializing in raising bulls specifically for bullfighting. They are newsworthy due to a recent tragic incident in Málaga, Spain. A retired bullfighter, Ricardo Ortiz, was fatally gored by a bull from El Pilar (and Puerto de San Lorenzo) while assisting with the unloading and penning of the bulls intended for an upcoming bullfight at the La Malagueta bullring. Ortiz was an employee at the bullring. The incident is being investigated as a workplace accident by the National Police. The event highlights the inherent dangers associated with bullfighting and the handling of these animals, even outside of the formal bullfight itself, bringing attention to the ganadería involved in supplying the bulls.
