Football Association of Malaysia

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is the governing body for football in Malaysia. It is currently facing significant challenges due to a scandal involving falsified naturalization documents used to field foreign-born players. This has led to FIFA imposing sanctions, including a US$400,000 fine and a one-year ban on seven players. The entire FAM executive committee resigned in response to the scandal. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) initially granted a stay, allowing the players to continue competing while their appeal was reviewed. However, CAS later eased the sanctions, reducing the ban to official matches only. This situation highlights issues of governance and player eligibility within Malaysian football and has brought international attention to the FAM's practices.
