About
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is the governing body for football in Malaysia. It is currently embroiled in a significant scandal involving the falsification of naturalization documents for foreign-born players. This has led to FIFA imposing sanctions, including a US$400,000 fine and a one-year ban on seven players. The entire executive committee of FAM resigned in response to the scandal. The players appealed the FIFA ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). CAS initially granted a stay, allowing the players to continue competing while the appeal was reviewed. Subsequently, CAS eased the sanctions, reducing the ban to 12 months from official matches only. This scandal has brought significant negative attention to Malaysian football and raised serious questions about the integrity of player eligibility processes within FAM.
