Hospital del Mar

Hospital del Mar is a hospital located in Barcelona, Spain. It is currently newsworthy for two distinct reasons. Firstly, it has become the first hospital in Spain to acquire and implement the most advanced peripheral ecobronchoscope for diagnosing lung cancer. This new technology allows for the detection and sampling of lung tumors in early stages and previously inaccessible locations. Secondly, the hospital is indirectly involved in a case of alleged severe abuse and sexual assault of a one-month-old baby. While the baby was eventually treated at Hospital Vall d'Hebron, the parents reportedly visited multiple medical centers, including Hospital del Mar, prior to the final diagnosis. The Conselleria de Salut has launched an investigation into the handling of the case and the sequence of medical visits before the baby's admission to Vall d'Hebron, raising questions about the initial assessments made at Hospital del Mar and other facilities.
