Mucem

The Mucem (Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée) is a national museum located in Marseille, France, dedicated to European and Mediterranean civilizations. It is currently newsworthy due to two distinct developments. Firstly, an investigation has been opened by the Marseille prosecutor's office into allegations of moral and sexual harassment against the museum's president, Pierre-Olivier Costa. This investigation was triggered by a report from the Ministry of Culture under Article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, with the alleged victim being a museum employee. Costa claims to be unaware of the procedure. Secondly, the Mucem has recently launched a major exhibition titled "Bonnes Mères" (Good Mothers), exploring the multifaceted aspects of motherhood through 350 works and objects from 20 countries around the Mediterranean. The exhibition aims to examine the mysteries, rituals, and realities associated with motherhood from March 18th to August 31st, 2026.
