Norovirus is a virus responsible for food poisoning outbreaks. It's currently newsworthy in Hong Kong due to a significant increase in food poisoning cases linked to the consumption of raw oysters. Hong Kong health authorities, specifically the Centre for Health Protection, have issued warnings about this 'drastic increase'. Since January 18th, there have been 23 reported cases of food poisoning affecting 69 individuals, with 20 cases involving 57 people specifically tied to raw oyster consumption. The recent surge in cases has put norovirus under the spotlight, raising concerns about food safety practices in eateries and the risks associated with consuming raw shellfish. This highlights the importance of proper food handling and sourcing to prevent future outbreaks.
