Old Dominion University

Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, Virginia, is a public research university. It has recently become newsworthy due to a fatal shooting on its campus on March 12, 2026. The shooter, identified as Mohamed Jalloh, a former member of the Army National Guard, killed one person and injured two others before dying. Jalloh had previously been convicted in 2016 for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State and was released from prison just two years prior to the attack. The FBI is investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism. The incident has brought renewed attention to gun violence on US university campuses and raised concerns about the potential for individuals with ties to extremist groups to commit acts of violence after being released from prison. The obliterated serial number on the firearm used in the shooting is also under investigation.
