Salmonella

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that causes foodborne illness in humans and animals. It has recently become newsworthy due to several product recalls. In the United States, Utz has voluntarily recalled two potato chip brands, Zapp's and Dirty, over concerns of salmonella contamination linked to the seasoning used. This action was prompted by potential links to foodborne illness. Similarly, in Spain, the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) issued a food alert for a sliced 'longaniza de payés' (a type of sausage) found to be contaminated with salmonella. The affected sausage had been distributed across several autonomous communities in Spain, including Andalusia, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and the Region of Murcia. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges in food safety and the importance of regulatory bodies and manufacturers in monitoring and responding to potential contamination risks to protect public health.
