About

Aboubacar Diakité, also known as Toumba, was the former aide-de-camp to Moussa Dadis Camara, the former leader of Guinea's junta. He was a physician with the rank of commander. Diakité gained notoriety for his involvement in the September 28, 2009 massacre at a Conakry stadium, where numerous civilians were killed and raped. He was convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to ten years in prison. Recent news reports indicate that Diakité was hospitalized in intensive care before his death. He died in prison on the night of March 24-25, 2026, while serving his sentence. His death is newsworthy due to his prominent role in the 2009 massacre and his close association with a controversial figure in Guinean politics. The transfer of Diakité between prisons in February 2026 had previously caused tensions.
