Andrie Yunus

Andrie Yunus is a 27-year-old Indonesian activist and deputy coordinator of the KontraS rights group, known for campaigning against the growing role of the army and for his activism. He is newsworthy due to a recent acid attack in Jakarta where two assailants on a motorbike threw acid in his face. The attack left him with serious injuries, including blindness in one eye, and damage to his face, hands, and chest. In response to the attack, an Indonesian military court has sentenced four soldiers from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) to prison terms ranging from 1.5 to 3 years. The court deemed their actions "arrogant" and motivated by anger over Yunus's activism. This incident has raised concerns about democratic backsliding in Indonesia.
