Dennis Richardson

Dennis Richardson is a former spy chief, specifically the former head of ASIO (Australian Security Intelligence Organisation). He recently became newsworthy due to his involvement, and subsequent resignation, from the royal commission into antisemitism and the Bondi terror attack. Initially, Prime Minister Albanese resisted calls for a royal commission, opting instead for Richardson to lead an urgent review of intelligence agencies and policing processes related to the Bondi attack. Albanese later reversed course and announced the royal commission. Richardson's sudden departure from the commission, just weeks after its opening, was announced by Commissioner Virginia Bell. Richardson stated he felt "surplus" to the commission's needs and that he was "way overpaid" for the work. He also emphasized the urgency of implementing improvements to public safety and intelligence, suggesting that recommendations shouldn't wait for the commission's final report in December.
