Juan Arroyo

Juan Arroyo is the former manager of the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas (CNIO), Spain's national cancer research center. He is currently under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Police for allegedly directing and covering up a €25 million embezzlement of public funds over 17 years. The investigation was triggered by accusations from two former senior officials at CNIO, leading to Arroyo's dismissal along with two subordinates. Adding to the controversy, Mariano Barbacid, a renowned scientist at CNIO, reportedly shielded Arroyo with an "unusual" contract. Furthermore, Barbacid and Arroyo share a business address for their private ventures, also shared by a company implicated in the alleged embezzlement, raising suspicions about Barbacid's potential involvement or knowledge of the financial irregularities. The investigation is ongoing.
