Li Yuanjian

Li Yuanjia is a young boy who was left permanently disabled over 16 years ago due to alleged professional misconduct by a Hong Kong paediatrician, Dr Sit Sou-chi. The case has recently come to the forefront with a verdict from the medical watchdog. Dr Sit was found guilty of failing to conduct necessary and immediate investigations on the newborn Li Yuanjia. Consequently, Dr Sit has been given a nine-month ban from the General Register, though not a suspension. The defence argued that misdiagnosis or incompetence does not necessarily constitute misconduct, while the prosecution contended that underperformance in the given circumstances does.
