Luís Villares

Luís Villares is a magistrate in the Tribunal Superior de Xustiza de Galicia (TSXG) and a former leader of the En Marea political party. He is currently newsworthy due to a controversial decision by the new president of the TSXG's Administrative Chamber, María Azucena Recio, to forcibly transfer him and three other magistrates between sections. This transfer is against their will and has been publicly denounced by legal associations like Xustiza e Sociedade de Galiza and Juezas y Jueces para la Democracia (JJpD). The transfers are particularly significant because Villares and another judge, María Dolores López, were part of the section that had previously halted wind farm projects, drawing criticism from the PP and business groups. The associations argue that these forced transfers undermine judicial independence and are a direct attack on the magistrates' ability to perform their duties without external pressure.
