Maher Assad

Maher Assad is the brother of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and was seen standing with him during the funeral of their father, former President Hafez Assad. While Bashar al-Assad has recently been sentenced to death in absentia, and a former senior military officer who commanded an army division under Bashar al-Assad's government has been detained in Lebanon, Maher Assad himself is not directly mentioned in these recent developments. His significance stems from his familial connection to the former Syrian leadership and his presence alongside his brother during a notable past event. The articles do not provide current details about Maher Assad's activities or whereabouts, but his name appears in the context of his family's prominent role in Syrian politics.
