Popeye

Popeye is a cartoon character, known for his rivalry with the character Bluto. He is a creation of the Fleischer Studios, who produced over a hundred short films featuring the character. While the character himself is not directly newsworthy, his influence on the creation of the iconic video game character Mario is. Shigeru Miyamoto, the designer of Mario, originally intended to adapt the Popeye and Bluto rivalry into an arcade game. However, Miyamoto was unable to secure the rights to the Popeye characters.
