Raúl Torrez

Raúl Torrez is the Attorney General of New Mexico. He is newsworthy due to his successful lawsuit against Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) regarding child safety on its platforms. In 2023, Torrez filed a lawsuit accusing Meta of prioritizing profits over user safety and concealing risks to young users and their parents. This lawsuit culminated in a New Mexico jury ordering Meta to pay $375 million in damages after finding the company liable for misleading consumers about platform safety and enabling harm, including child sexual exploitation. This marks the first time a US state has successfully sued Meta over child safety issues. Separately, New Mexico authorities, presumably under Torrez's purview, have launched a search of Jeffrey Epstein's former Zorro Ranch, indicating an ongoing investigation into past alleged abuses at that location.
