About

Vladimir Motin, a 59-year-old Russian captain, has been jailed for six years for manslaughter by gross negligence following a fatal collision in the North Sea. Motin was the captain of the container ship Solong when it crashed into the anchored oil tanker Stena Immaculate off the coast of Yorkshire, England, in March of last year. The collision resulted in a large fire and the death of a crew member. Motin was on sole watch duty at the time of the incident and failed to take any action to prevent the crash. A London court found him guilty of causing the death through gross negligence, with the judge stating he was a "serious accident waiting to happen." The Stena Immaculate was carrying over 220,000 barrels of aviation fuel at the time of the collision.
