Yoweri Museveni

Yoweri Museveni is the 81-year-old President of Uganda, having recently won a seventh term in office in the January 2026 elections. He has been in power for decades, and is considered one of Africa's 'leaders for life'. His recent re-election is newsworthy due to widespread allegations of election fraud and violence, as well as heavy repression of the opposition. Opposition leader Bobi Wine, who came in second, has refused to contest the results in court, citing a lack of confidence in the judiciary, and has called for peaceful protests. Museveni, in his victory speech, labeled his opponents 'terrorists'.
