What’s happening in Mali one week after attack by armed groups? All we know
Mali's military government is restructuring following coordinated attacks by armed groups on April 25th. The al-Qaeda-linked JNIM claimed responsibility for assaults on military sites, including in the capital, Bamako, and stated they captured the northern city of Kidal in conjunction with the Tuareg-dominated Azawad Liberation Front (FLA). This marks a significant security crisis for Mali. The leader, Assimi Goita, has assumed the role of defense minister after the previous minister was killed in an attack. JNIM and FLA, despite past conflicts, are now collaborating to control Kidal and aim for other northern cities to establish a self-declared state of Azawad.
