WHO raises risk assessment as DR Congo’s Ebola outbreak spreads ‘rapidly’
The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised its risk assessment for the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to "very high" at the national level. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated on Friday that the outbreak is spreading rapidly. This upward revision from a previously assessed "high" risk reflects the worsening situation within the DRC. The risk of regional spread remains high, while the global risk is considered low. As of the announcement, 82 cases had been confirmed in the DRC, with seven confirmed deaths, though the WHO acknowledges the epidemic is likely larger.
