Nigeria's first Ebola patient holidayed in Uganda, officials say
Nigeria's first confirmed Ebola case is a 42-year-old Ugandan diplomat's wife, who recently holidayed in Kampala, Uganda, and transited through Ethiopia before falling ill in Abuja, Nigeria, on October 6th. She sought treatment at two private hospitals before public health authorities were alerted on October 19th, with her diagnosis confirmed the following day. Nigerian health officials have identified 44 contacts, who are now in isolation, and are working with Ugandan and Ethiopian authorities to trace her movements and determine the source of infection. The health minister expressed confidence in Nigeria's ability to contain the virus, citing strengthened surveillance and trained personnel.
