Cyanide is a highly toxic chemical compound that has recently been implicated in the deaths of 15 elephants in Kenya. The leading suspicion is that the elephants ingested the poison by consuming tomatoes from nearby farms that had been sprayed with cyanide-containing pesticides. This incident highlights the dangers of pesticide use in areas adjacent to wildlife habitats and raises significant concerns about the environmental impact on endangered species. The KWS is investigating the matter further to confirm the cause of death and address the potential risks posed by agricultural practices to wildlife populations.
