Flexibility measures allowing member states to temporarily pause EES controls have expired, leading to concerns about renewed border queues and increased waiting times at airports, with some reports suggesting passport control times have tripled. Several member states have reportedly indicated they will not fully enforce biometric checks, highlighting practical difficulties and the need for urgent fixes. Airlines have called for extended discretionary powers to manage potential disruptions.
