IED

Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are homemade bombs, often constructed from conventional explosives and shrapnel, designed to cause casualties and destruction. They are frequently used by insurgent groups and terrorists as a tactic to inflict harm and sow fear. Recent news highlights their continued use in conflict zones. In Syria, an IED detonated near a hotel in Damascus where French President Emmanuel Macron was staying during a state visit, underscoring the potential for high-profile targets to be affected. Separately, in northwestern Pakistan, two roadside bomb blasts, likely IEDs, killed at least seven people. The second explosion occurred as rescuers arrived, a common tactic to maximize casualties. These incidents demonstrate the ongoing threat posed by IEDs, their adaptability by various groups, and their capacity to disrupt political events and cause significant loss of life in different regions.
