Lord Shiva

Lord Shiva is one of the principal deities of Hinduism, revered as the destroyer and transformer within the Trimurti, alongside Brahma the creator and Vishnu the preserver. He is a complex figure, often depicted as an ascetic yogi, a family man, and a cosmic dancer (Nataraja). Devotees worship him in various forms, including the phallic symbol of the lingam. His significance is particularly pronounced during festivals like Shravan, a holy month dedicated to his worship. Recent news has unfortunately brought attention to Lord Shiva's worship through tragic events. A deadly stampede occurred near the Ashok Dham Temple in Lakhisarai district, Bihar, India, during the third Monday of Shravan. The incident, which claimed seven lives and injured over a dozen, was reportedly triggered by panic caused by a snapped electric wire among thousands of devotees gathered to offer prayers. This event underscores the immense faith and large gatherings associated with Shiva worship, while also highlighting the critical need for safety measures at religious sites during peak worship periods.
