Western powers ramp up support for Philippines’ Luzon economic hub

Western powers are significantly increasing their support for the Philippines' Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC), a trilateral infrastructure initiative led by the United States, Japan, and the Philippines. Eight additional countries – Canada, Australia, Denmark, France, Italy, South Korea, Sweden, and the United Kingdom – are now backing the project. The LEC aims to boost connectivity and trade by linking key ports and airports on Luzon, the Philippines' main island. Beyond initial infrastructure plans, the initiative is now attracting investments in sectors such as energy, digital systems, cybersecurity, shipbuilding, and advanced manufacturing, indicating growing international confidence in its long-term potential.
