Iran war: Chinese tanker passes Red Sea choke point despite Houthi blockade

Experts suggest the Houthi militia in Yemen may be permitting some vessels to transit the Bab al-Mandab strait, a critical Red Sea choke point, despite their blockade on shipping to Saudi Arabia. A Chinese oil tanker, the Cosco Shipping VLCC Xin Long Yang, has reportedly received clearance to pass through the waterway. Trade publication Lloyd's List indicates that Chinese tankers returning from Saudi Arabia's Yanbu port might be able to negotiate passage with the Iranian-backed Houthis on an individual basis.
