Bright Angel Canyon

Bright Angel Canyon is a prominent area within Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. It is known for its scenic beauty and is a popular destination for hikers and visitors, often associated with the historic Phantom Ranch located at its base. The canyon has recently become newsworthy due to a significant flash flood event that occurred on Saturday afternoon. This event caused substantial flooding, sweeping large boulders and debris into the Colorado River. As a result, more than 60 people have been evacuated from the Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch areas. Tragically, at least 15 to over 20 individuals are feared missing or unaccounted for following the deluge. Park staff and emergency services, including the Arizona Department of Public Safety, have been involved in rescue and evacuation efforts. While no injuries have been officially reported, the incident highlights the dangers of flash flooding in canyon environments and the ongoing search for the missing individuals.
