First, it was the location of a FIS Alpine Ski World Cup race where US ski star Lindsey Vonn crashed during the downhill event. The crash resulted in Vonn being airlifted from the course with a knee injury, jeopardizing her participation in the upcoming Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The race was her final downhill before the Olympics. Separately, Crans Montana was also the site of a devastating fire at Le Constellation bar, resulting in multiple fatalities. A special Mass was held at St Christopher's Church for the victims, drawing hundreds of mourners.
