Northwestern Nigeria is experiencing a surge in deadly attacks carried out by armed gunmen on motorcycles, often referred to as "bandits." These groups are responsible for raiding villages, resulting in significant loss of life, abductions, and destruction of property. Recent attacks in Zamfara and Niger states have left dozens dead, with reports indicating at least 50 fatalities in Tungan Dutse, Zamfara, and another 30 across three villages in Niger state's Borgu local government area. The attackers use motorcycles for rapid movement between villages, making it difficult for security forces to respond effectively. These raids involve shooting, throat-slitting, arson, and abduction of women and children. The attacks highlight the escalating insecurity in the region and the vulnerability of rural communities to these armed groups operating near the border with Benin Republic.
