Lamma Island

Lamma Island is one of the larger islands in Hong Kong. It is currently newsworthy due to two main reasons. Firstly, a long-awaited inquest into the 2012 Lamma ferry crash, one of Hong Kong's deadliest maritime disasters, is concluding. The court has ruled that the 39 deaths were unlawful killings. This inquest has been a long process, with families initially opting out of the government's inquiry. Secondly, Hong Kong police are expanding drone patrols to Lamma Island, along with other key areas like The Peak and Cheung Chau. These patrols aim to enhance crime prevention, crowd control, and traffic monitoring. The expansion signifies the increasing use of technology in law enforcement within Hong Kong and its application to geographically diverse areas like Lamma Island.
