Mount Dukono

Mount Dukono, an active volcano located on Halmahera island in Indonesia's North Maluku province, is currently newsworthy due to a recent eruption. The volcano erupted on Friday morning, spewing a tower of volcanic ash up to 10km into the air. This event tragically resulted in the deaths of three hikers, including two foreigners and one Indonesian resident. Authorities are currently engaged in a search and rescue operation for approximately 20 hikers who were trapped in the area, despite the mountain being closed since April 17. Volcanic material, including ash and rock, continues to be ejected from the crater, complicating rescue efforts. The alert status for Mount Dukono has been maintained at its highest level by the country's Geology Agency.
