North Halmahera

Mount Dukono, an active volcano located on Halmahera island in Indonesia, erupted on May 8th, releasing a significant ash cloud. The eruption tragically resulted in the deaths of three hikers and injured five others. These individuals were reportedly climbing the restricted volcano, which had been closed since April 17th, to create online content. Authorities are currently searching for an additional 20 hikers who may have been trapped in the area following the volcanic event. The eruption, which sent ash as high as 10 kilometers, highlights the ongoing volcanic activity in the region and the risks associated with venturing into hazardous, restricted zones.
