Northern Molucca Sea

The Northern Molucca Sea is a maritime region located off the coast of Ternate, in the North Maluku province of Indonesia. It is newsworthy due to a recent magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck the area. The earthquake, which occurred early on Thursday local time, had an epicenter approximately 120-127km west-northwest of Ternate and a depth of 35km. The event triggered a tsunami warning for areas within 1,000km of the epicenter, although the warning was later lifted. The earthquake resulted in at least one reported fatality. The Northern Molucca Sea's location within a seismically active zone makes it prone to such events, highlighting the region's vulnerability to natural disasters and the importance of monitoring and preparedness efforts.
