Sanya is a resort city located on Hainan Island, China. It's currently newsworthy due to its increasing popularity as a destination for Russian tourists. Sanctions and perceived negative sentiment in other countries have led many Russians to seek refuge in Sanya, drawn by its warm weather and China's visa-free travel policy. While Sanya attracts tourists, other areas in the South China Sea are also in the news. Recent satellite images indicate China has been expanding its land reclamation activities on Antelope Reef in the Paracel Islands (Xisha in Chinese, Hoang Sa in Vietnamese).
