Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI)

The Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI) is Spain's national identity document. It's newsworthy due to the recent launch of the MiDNI application, which allows citizens to carry a digital version of their DNI on their smartphones for legal identification. The MiDNI app, approved by the Congress of Ministers, connects to the central DNI issuance system to ensure validity and authenticity. However, the Junta Electoral Central (JEC) has temporarily suspended the use of MiDNI and MiDGT apps for voting (both in-person and by mail) until security concerns regarding identity verification are addressed. This suspension followed a request from the PP party, highlighting concerns about the security of using digital IDs for electoral purposes. Despite the suspension for voting, the MiDNI app remains relevant for general identification purposes.
