Lendu

The Lendu are an ethnic group in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), primarily located in the Ituri Province. They have been associated with various militia groups, most notably CODECO (Cooperative for the Development of the Congo). These groups have been involved in prolonged and violent conflicts in the mineral-rich eastern DRC, often vying for control of resources and territory. Recent news highlights the ongoing instability in the region, with CODECO militia groups being implicated in deadly attacks. For instance, an attack in Ituri province attributed to these rebels resulted in at least 69 fatalities. The conflict in eastern DRC is a long-standing issue, exacerbated by the presence of numerous armed groups. The Lendu-associated militias contribute to the widespread insecurity, making the region a dangerous battleground and hindering efforts to address other critical issues like public health crises, such as the recent panic over Ebola outbreaks in the DRC.
