The National Meteorological Center (NMC) is China's primary authority for weather forecasting and issuing public warnings. It recently issued a red typhoon alert, the highest level of warning, in anticipation of Typhoon Dolphin making landfall on China's eastern coast. This alert preceded significant disruptions, including the cancellation of over 1,600 flights and the evacuation of approximately 500,000 people. Typhoon Dolphin, which initially came ashore as a typhoon with sustained winds of up to 162 km/h, brought torrential rain and strong winds to eastern China, prompting concerns of severe flooding and landslides in coastal and inland provinces like Zhejiang, Hubei, and Henan. The NMC's timely and severe warnings are crucial for public safety and disaster preparedness in the face of extreme weather events impacting the region.
