National People's Congress (NPC)

The National People's Congress (NPC) is China's top legislative body that makes laws and sets policies for the country. Recently, it has been in the news due to its annual meeting, where senior Chinese military chiefs were swept up in Xi Jinping's anticorruption drive, prominent Chinese entrepreneurs committed to Middle East expansion despite geopolitical risks, and a new law on ethnic unity was passed to counter Western influence. The NPC also set China's lowest economic growth target in nearly 30 years and approved a suite of new laws, including one diminishing the role of minority ethnic languages in education.
