Nature Health is a publisher of scientific research. It is currently newsworthy due to the publication of a study investigating the link between pesticide exposure and cancer rates in Peru. The study, conducted by French and Peruvian researchers and published on April 1st, analyzed 31 pesticides, none of which were classified as carcinogenic by the WHO. Over six years, researchers compared pesticide exposure levels in specific areas of Peru with local cancer registries. The findings indicated that the risk of developing cancer was, on average, 150% higher in areas with greater pesticide exposure, even though the pesticides used were not classified as carcinogenic. This research is significant as it suggests a potential link between non-classified pesticides and cancer, raising concerns about pesticide use and public health in agricultural regions.
