Observatorio do Clima

Observatorio do Clima is a prominent Brazilian climate observatory that plays a crucial role in monitoring environmental data and advocating for climate policy. The organization has recently gained attention due to significant drops in Amazon deforestation rates. Official figures indicate a substantial decrease in forest clearance, reaching the lowest level since records began in 1988. This development is particularly noteworthy as it occurred during President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's administration, which reversed policies enacted under the previous presidency of Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro's term saw a marked increase in deforestation, whereas Lula's government has focused on tightening environmental monitoring and penalties. The recent positive trends in reducing deforestation highlight the Observatorio do Clima's ongoing relevance in tracking and reporting on critical environmental indicators in Brazil, especially in the context of national and international climate commitments.
