Joao Paulo Capobianco

Joao Paulo Capobianco is a figure within Brazil's environmental sector, notably connected to the current administration's policies. His relevance is highlighted by recent data indicating a significant decrease in Amazon deforestation. Under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's leadership, Brazil has seen forest clearance drop to its lowest level since records began in 1988, a 42 percent reduction from the previous year. This achievement is a reversal of trends seen during the Bolsonaro presidency (2019-2022), when deforestation rates increased substantially. Capobianco's work, alongside the Lula administration, has focused on tightening environmental monitoring and increasing penalties for illegal logging. The recent success in reducing deforestation is particularly significant as it provides a boost to the government and underscores the effectiveness of their environmental strategies.
