Marcio Astrini

Marcio Astrini is an environmental activist who has been actively involved in advocating for the protection of the Amazon rainforest. His work has gained recent attention due to significant drops in Amazon deforestation rates in Brazil. Under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's administration, deforestation has fallen to its lowest level since records began in 1988, a stark contrast to the increased rates observed during the presidency of Jair Bolsonaro. Lula's government has reversed previous policies, tightened environmental monitoring, and increased penalties for illegal logging, contributing to these positive developments. Astrini's continued efforts and advocacy are relevant as Brazil works to combat deforestation and protect this vital ecosystem, especially in light of recent environmental policy shifts and their measurable impact.
