The État islamique (Islamic State/ISIS) and its affiliated groups are currently newsworthy due to their continued activity and expansion in various regions of Africa. The group's presence is particularly notable in Mali, where ISIS jihadists conducted attacks in Ménaka near the Niger border in late March, targeting the Malian army and its local and Russian allies. In Niger, the military regime is responding to the jihadist threat by creating and training local self-defense groups to support the armed forces. Furthermore, in Central Africa, specifically the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an Islamist guerrilla group affiliated with ISIS, continues to operate and pose a significant security challenge.
