Type 055 destroyer

The Type 055 destroyer is a class of advanced guided-missile destroyers in the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). These 12,000-tonne vessels are among the largest and most capable surface combatants in the world, equipped with advanced weaponry and sensors. They are newsworthy due to the recent commissioning of two Type 055 destroyers, the Dongguan and Anqing, into the East China Fleet. These ships were observed in Zhoushan in late January and participated in their first live-fire training exercise in mid-March, simulating high-intensity combat missions. This deployment is significant as it is expected to intensify Chinese naval operations in the East China Sea and beyond Taiwan, potentially extending beyond the first island chain.
