It is currently in the news due to a tragic incident in the Maldives where four of its divers, including a professor of ecology, were among five Italians who drowned while exploring a deep underwater cave. The high-risk search operation, complicated by unfavorable weather conditions, tragically resulted in the death of a Maldivian military diver as well. The group was attempting to explore caves at a depth of approximately 50 meters.
